Betty Louise Eddins, 95, passed away at her home on April 1, 2026. Born January 24, 1931, in Mecklenburg County, Betty was a devoted, compassionate, generous, kind-hearted, resilient, and selfless woman whose life was marked by quiet strength, steadfast faith, and deep love for family and community.
Betty was the 4th of 10 children born to Willis and Mamie Hilton. She attended High School in Charlotte, NC, and carried forward the values of family, perseverance, and care for others throughout her life.
Betty’s primary career was being a homemaker, a role she embraced with pride and purpose. When her daughters were in elementary school, she went to work in food services in the school system and worked there until she was 83 years old. She was a caregiver in the truest sense—taking care of her mom, supporting extended family when needed, and finding her greatest joy in being a mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Betty was married to the love of her life, Lloyd Blanchard Eddins, affectionately known as “Beau.” They met at a dance at the fire tower on Monroe Road. Their signature flower was a gardenia, and Beau always placed a gardenia in his car sun visor before every date. Beau and Betty were married for 41 years before Beau passed away in 1990. Together they had two daughters, Judy Craig (Bruce) and Lisa Eddins-Smith (Todd). Betty has five granddaughters, Heather (Kenny), Melanie (Mitchell), Sheldon (Will), Madison (Kyle), Katie (engaged to Brent) and her 12 great-grandchildren. She will always be sweetly known to all as 'Thee MawMaw'.
Betty is also survived by her sister Janet Cable, her brother Ted Hilton, many nieces and nephews as well as other loved family members.
Betty was actively involved in Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church and later moved to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where she served in the children and student worship ministries. Often serving behind the scenes, caring for families was her greatest joy.
Betty made friends and neighbors feel like they were “her own,” welcoming others with a caring and compassionate spirit. She loved to read, spend time at the beach, sit on the porch and watch the birds, deer, and squirrels, and passing out snacks to anyone who she encountered. Above all, time spent with family was her primary pastime—she listened in to each conversation, catching every detail intently.
Betty began her day praying for her loved ones by name, a reflection of the steady faith that shaped her life which remains a lasting part of her legacy. She is cherished and loved dearly. We find great joy and comfort knowing she is safe in the arms of her Savior forever.
