

William was born on December 31, 1930 in Pineville, NC to the late Charles Hamilton Kimbrell and Edna Mae Moore. He was also the grandchild of Angus H. Kimbrell and Ida Satterfield Kimbrell, and James Frank Moore and Emily Jane Laws Moore.
He grew up and lived in the Pineville area his whole life. He struggled with schoolwork and dropped out to work with his Dad and older brothers. He and his brother Bill weaned the calves off their mother’s milk for the dairy on Morrison Farms. Later, he worked several stints at Pineville Cone Mills in the card room. He met the love of his life, Betty Frances Page, and they married on August 25, 1956. They were married for 61 years. He also worked at Pelton & Crane (Bristol-Myers, Siemens) for 24 years until his retirement in 1996. He and Mother worked hard all their lives to provide for the family. They took us to church and encouraged us to “Be Good”.
He was affectionately called “Diddy” by his daughters. All of his family and friends called him “Buddy”. He related the story when was getting baptized at age 13 with his younger brother Roy Lee (Sonny). They had polished their shoes with black polish and when they went into the water the polish got onto their brand new white shirts.
One of his great passions was bass fishing at Lake Wylie with friends and family. He kept a meticulous diary for many years of his trips. Another one of his passions was woodworking. He made numerous swings, hat racks, paper towel holders, reindeer flower holders, walking sticks, and so many other things.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Frances Page Kimbrell. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Charlie, Bill, Roy Lee (Sonny) and sister, Shirley Greene. He is survived by his son, Danny Kimbrell of Pineville, twin daughters, Lisa Johnson and husband George Johnson of Lancaster, SC, and Teresa Cranford (Kenneth) of Fort Mill, SC. Grandchildren, Jason Sundin, Halley Cook and husband Michael Cook of Kannapolis, and Brittany Robertson and husband Isaac Robertson of Concord; Great Grandchildren, Dylan Sundin, Lucas Cook, Owen Cook, Parker Robertson and Lydia Robertson.
Also surviving is brother, Clyde Kimbrell and wife Betty Deese Kimbrell of Ft. Mill; sisters, Betty Jane Mason of Pineville, Carolyn Conner of Athens, Ala, and Judy Ellington of Nebo, NC.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday October 21, 2025 from 6-9 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday October 22, 2025 at Flint Hill Baptist Church, 269 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC 29715. Burial will be in the Church cemetery following the service.
