

Mrs. Betty Hirsch Levin, daughter of the late William Zacharias Hirsch and the late May Schear Hirsch, was born on September 17, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio and passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 10, 2020 at the age of 94.
She attended Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 1948 and her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte in 1971. She spent the bulk of her professional career working as a social worker for the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services, Adoption and Foster Care program, from which she retired in 1987.
She married John Harold Levin (deceased 2002) in 1950 and was the mother of four children: Myles Andrew Levin (Loretta) of Evanston, Illinois, Jonathan Paul Levin (Kyle) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Amy Jane Levin of Chicago, Illinois and Samuel Alex Levin (Carolyn) of Port Washington, New York. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bess Anne Levin, MD and Peter Charles Levin of Chicago, Illinois, Martha Louise Levin of San Francisco, California, Benjamin Zachary Levin and Matthew Louis Levin of Asheville, North Carolina and Emma Lilly Levin and Jaime Lara Levin of New Haven, Connecticut.
Betty was known for her warm and engaging personality, empathy and profound capacity to quickly establish connections with nearly every person she ever met. Her good nature and cheerfulness were easily recognized by any person with whom she interacted and she was revered by her family and seemingly endless circle of friends.
In addition to her husband John, she was predeceased by her brother, David Samuel Hirsch, DDS of Oxford, Ohio and her cousin, Shirlee Schear Kling of Boca Raton, Florida- with whom she was raised as a sister.
