Betty L. Simpson Sturgis

Betty Sturgis, 70, of Charlotte, NC went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis at Presbyterian Hospital. She will always be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that knew and loved her.

She was born on May 8, 1941 to the late Charles and Christine Helms Simpson in Union County, NC. She retired from Pelton and Crane after 30 years of service. Betty was a member of South Charlotte Baptist Church. Her most cherished love was being with friends and family and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years James “Bill” Sturgis of Charlotte, NC; a son Mike Lee and his wife Kellie of Charlotte; a stepson Mike Kane and his wife Rhonda of Rock Hill, SC; 2 stepdaughters Regina Bradley and her husband Lane and Nicole Piper all of Rock Hill, SC; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Sue Teague and her husband Ken of Roxboro, NC and Jeanette Hardman and her husband Bob of York, SC; 2 brothers Ken Simpson of York and Ronnie Simpson of North Myrtle Beach, SC. Betty was preceded in death by a brother Ricky Simpson, a sister Marie Martin and her husband Robert “Bob” Lee in 1986.

A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at South Charlotte Baptist Church, 12416 Lancaster Highway, Pineville, NC 28134 with Rev Charlie Scott and Pastor Joseph Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28277. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Friday, September 9, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC.
