Betty Jane Yandle

Born February 18, 1941 in Charlotte, she was the daughter of Parks E. Malcolm and Ethel Sherrill Malcolm. Following graduation from West Mecklenburg High School she became a licensed cosmetologist. In 1961, she and her then husband opened the first of several successful business ventures. Betty later worked for and retired from Piedmont Natural Gas.

To know her was to love her. She was a kind, loving, thoughtful and giving person. She could get ornery, have a sassy streak, and she loved to speak in sarcasm.

She not only raised her two children and helped raise her grandchildren, she mothered, fed, clothed, housed and loved many kids who were not her own. She loved children and surrounded herself with them her entire life. Her family found it funny in her later years that she talked about her extreme dislike for “old people”. Pretty funny for someone in their 80’s.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Hatcher (Dave) of Lancaster, SC; son, Terry Yandle, Jr. (Kristen) of Fort Mill, SC; beloved grandchildren, Dalton Hatley of Indian Land, SC and Casey True (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; nieces, Bonnie Hoagland, Jennifer McDonald (Scottie) and Kristie Malcolm; as well as multiple great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind lifelong friends, Terry Yandle, Sr., Judy Anderson and Dianne Johnson.

Betty’s family would like to recognize her wonderful neighbors who became like family and always kept an eye on her by bringing a meal, fresh vegetables, oatmeal raisin cookies and conversation. Diane and Herb Poston, Lee Watson, Jess, Kerry, Jack and Hutch Aaron, as well as Pete and Barbara Towery.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Malcom.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
