Beverly was a native of Berwick, Maine; the daughter of Leslie and Marjorie Babb. She graduated from Berwick High School and Boston University and joined the USAF. After Officer Training School in Texas, her first assignment was Travis AFB, California where she was the Administrative Officer of the Civil Engineering Squadron and the second in command of the WAF squadron.
She met Joe Goodson, a C-141 pilot, and the love of her life, shortly after arriving at Travis. They married and had a year together before Joe was reassigned to Vietnam as an O-2 pilot and she left for duty at Torrejon AB in Madrid, Spain to become the first woman to work in a Command Post. While there she earned a Master of Science in Secondary Education degree from the Overseas Program of the University of Southern California.
Joe left the Air Force after his tour in Vietnam and joined Beverly in Madrid. They bought a Volkswagen camper and toured a lot of Spain in the remaining two years of her commitment. Then they spent 4 months touring Europe in the camper before returning to Charlotte.
She took computer science classes at CPCC and was given the opportunity to teach there. A year later she was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis and had to leave school and teaching. Within months, God provided an in-home business which gave her the flexibility she needed as well as jobs for the 30 plus people who worked with her.
She was an active member of Church at Charlotte and taught elementary Sunday school, women's Bible Study, and was a leader of the Caring Threads Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Beverly is survived by her husband, Joe Goodson; brother, Steven Babb; nephew Ty Babb; great nephew, Marley; niece, Carmen Bombeke; great nephew, Zephyr; sister, Jill Hurley; nephew, Adam Abeyta. Beverly is also survived by two wonderful unofficial daughters, Nydia Gaynor and Vanessa White. McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
