Beverly Anne Oberlies, 76, of Locust, walked through the gates of heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ early Wednesday morning, December 11, 2019. She was surrounded by her family in her final days of a long battle with Alzheimer’s at Brookdale Memory Care in Monroe, NC.
Beverly was born on March 28, 1943, to Clyde and Gladys Kimmons in Charlotte, NC. She attended Garinger High School, CPCC and UNCC. Enjoying a long and successful career, she began as a customer service assistant at the Kmart on Independence, then on to Hobbs Plumbing, Century 21 Real Estate School, partner and executive assistant in the family trucking business and finally 19 years as a medical transcriptionist. Driven to succeed, she was honored as Woman of the Year by the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and achieved her goal to lose over 100lbs through TOPS. However, none of this came at the expense of her family, who knew that she loved them and they were important to her. She could always be found on the sideline of Mike’s sporting events or watching Sandra cheer and never missed an opportunity to encourage Karen’s love of music. A great cook, excellent homemaker and godly woman who was always active in her church, she will be missed by friends and family.
Beverly is survived by her second husband of 33 years, Don Oberlies and daughter, Whittney Chauta (Matt), stepdaughters, Stacy Farrugia (Charles) and Amy Logsdon (Jeremy) along with 8 grandchildren, her first husband of 26 years, Allan Hughes and their children, Karen Partee (Mack), Sandra Hughes, and Mike Hughes (Kim) and their 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Brookdale Memory Care for the love and concern they showed Beverly during her 15 months in their care. In particular, the family appreciates the assistance provided by Renee, Darlene, Raya, Taylor and Dionne in making Mom feel comfortable and loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park on Monroe Road.
