Bobby Gene Rogers

Bob was born on June 23, 1933, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, to Fred William Rogers Sr. and Ila Plyler Rogers. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte and a former member of Derita Baptist Church for 26 years. Bob and his beloved wife, Shirley, were married on May 25, 1958, at Derita Baptist Church. They first met at Western Electric Company Inc., where Shirley gave Bob an application for a job. He proudly served two years in the United States Army before beginning a 30-year career with Western Electric, from which he retired.

Known as "Pawpaw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bob loved Atlanta Braves baseball and UNC college basketball. He also cherished spending time with Shirley, particularly their many shopping outings together during their 66 years of marriage.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fred William Rogers Sr. and Ila Plyla Rogers; his brother, Fred William Rogers Jr.; and his niece, Sandy Rogers Jetton. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley Ayers Rogers; his daughters, Debbie (Glen) Durham and Deana (David Sr.) Yergeau; his grandchildren, Michael (Kayla) Durham, David Yergeau Jr. (Kristen Taylor), Jennifer (Chad) Cater, and Rebecca Yergeau (Jarrett Davis); and his great-grandchildren, Addilyn, Lilly, and Isla Durham; his nieces and nephews, Susan Price, Emily (Williams) Bernhardt, Eddie Ayers (Vicky), Chris Ayers (Karla) and Craig Rogers.

The family will receive friends to honor and celebrate Bob’s life on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at McEwen Funeral Home-Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brian Hollifield officiating. Graveside burial will take place at 12:00 PM at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 1504 W. Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Bob will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will always remember his kind heart, devotion to his loved ones, and his joy for life.
