Bonnie Blue (Bunny) Watson Sams passed away on Wednesday Feb. 28, 2018, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte in the company of her family.

Bunny was born in Winston-Salem and grew up in Kinston. She attended Mississippi State College for Women, and later met Wayne while attending Memphis State University. They married on April 13, 1968. Soon after, she accompanied Wayne during his service in the Army in West Germany. Afterwards, Bunny spent her time raising Josh while Wayne graduated from law school in Memphis, and then moved to North Carolina.

Before retiring, Bunny was a commercial real estate property manager for the Bissell Companies, and managed several office properties in the SouthPark area.

Bunny will be remembered as a sweet, caring and loving person who cherished her relatives and friends. She and Wayne would spend long hours on the road traveling to visit friends and relatives.

Bunny loved to read and spend time with her grandchildren. She was an animal lover, especially dogs. During walks around the neighborhood, she would ask strangers if she could pet their dog.

Bunny is survived by her husband, Wayne Sams; her son, Joshua Sams; her grandchildren, Sawyer and Savannah Sams; her sister, Barbara Chamberlin; and her aunt, Rose Carol Karam. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Evelyn Watson and brother, Jerry Watson.

A service to celebrate Bunny's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, Mar. 6, in the chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. A visitation and reception for family and friends will follow the service.

For those wishing to send memorial gifts, please consider the Humane Society of Charlotte.

"Bunny" loved animals, all kinds. She especially loved cats and had several through the years. Her most recent "love" was Dickens who was cross-eyed. My last visit, a few years back, Dickens sat at the chair I was sitting in and stared at my hair. Bunny said that he had liked to play with hair.

I had a chocolate labrador retriever named "Barron" (who is in heaven) and now have one named "Baxter" that Bunny loved to see when she came to visit. She wanted a picture of Barron to put on her refrigerator.

Bunny could make friends with any animal and anyone. She will be sorely missed by our entire family. Heaven has a new angel. Although there is an empty spot in my brother's heart and my nephew, Josh's heart, memories of Bonnie will live on.
