Bonnie Ann White passed away early Tuesday morning (February 27) in the presence of family at Atrium Health-Pineville after a short illness. She was born in Staunton, Virginia, July 11, 1933, a daughter of Herbert Franklin and Sylvia Callie (Kline) Painter.
After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, she attended Dunsmore Business College in Staunton before marrying the love of her life, Donald James White, on May 26, 1956 at St. Paul’s Evangelical United Brethren Church. After Don’s service in the Air Force, his career took them to Richmond. Don and Bonnie moved to Charlotte, NC in 1970 along with their two children.
Still homesick for Virginia, Bonnie began what would become a 31-year career with the Belk store at Southpark Mall. She had also been a long-time resident of the Starmount neighborhood before her move to The Laurels in Pineville. Bonnie made many cherished and enduring friendships, especially through her membership with St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. That affiliation began when she and Don were encouraged to begin square dance lessons with the ‘Swinging Saints’.
Besides her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; her son, Scott Douglas White, in 2010; her sister, Patsy Reed, in 2020; and three infant brothers. She is survived by her daughter Donna Davis and her husband Lanny; a grandson, Donald James White, who she helped raise and in whom she was most proud, and his fiancée Kady Hammer; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville, 10500 Park Rd., on Saturday, March 2, from 10-11 AM. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 AM in the chapel officiated by Rev. Sherri Barnes of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. A private interment of ashes in Evergreen Cemetery will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent medical staff of Atrium Health-Pineville for the care and kindness they provided.
