Boyd Joseph Harwood

Mr. Harwood, age 86, of Charlotte passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Mecklenburg Health Care Center.

He was born October 23, 1926 in Stanly County, North Carolina the son of the late Eli Wiley Harwood and Bertha Hatley Harwood. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Watson Harwood and a brother, Marvin David Harwood.

Mr. Harwood served proudly in the US Army during WWII. He graduated from Ridgecrest High School in Stanfield, North Carolina. Boyd was well known for his talent with growing amazing vegetables and having a beautiful yard. He loved gardening and working in his yard and spending time on Lake Tillery boating. He retired from a twenty-five year career with Pelton & Crane in Charlotte.

Surviving are his sons, Michael Harwood and wife Marsha and Dean Harwood and wife Irene; daughters, Joy Hodges and husband Steve Hodges and Gail Joyner; grandchildren, Gina Joyner, Melissa Lowery, Adam Harwood, Laura Sawyer, Jeremy Turner, Joshua Turner, Wesley Joyner, Larry Joyner, Nicholas Harwood, Cameron Harwood, and Jackson Harwood; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Pina Nance and Rachel Warwick; and numerous other loving family.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Grace Bible Church, 8820 Idlewild Road, Charlotte, NC 28227. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the church.
