

He was born May 24, 1960 in Chicago, IL to Roger and Ann Burns Scott.
Brian was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He was unassuming, courageous and loyal. He cherished spending time with family and friends and giving back to his community. He profoundly touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have met him. Brian treated everyone with respect and believed everyone deserved a second chance. He loved his dogs, Barnie, Maggie and Rosco.
He truly enjoyed his job as a General Manager of Health and Life Sciences at Microsoft where he will be remembered as an outstanding mentor and was highly respected by all of his colleagues. He showed his commitment to his fellow man by offering his time and philanthropy to community organizations such as NPower, the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, the Carolinas Freedom Foundation and was on the board of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and Nexus Lighting.
Brian proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps.
When news of Brian’s death became known, the outpouring of love, support and heartfelt tributes was overwhelming and greatly appreciated by Brian’s family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Debra Scott; his daughter, Taylor Ann Scott; his son, Kevin Brian Scott; his father, Roger Scott; his sister, Patricia Ann White (Charles), his younger sister, Maureen Terese Franco (Ricardo), his younger brother Matthew Roger Scott (Danielle), nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann “Pip” Scott and his beloved mother-in-law, Barbara “Nana” Taylor.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service, Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road. The celebration of his life will take place Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church 6050 Hickory Grove Road.
Brian's family requests in lieu of flowers or gifts that friends donate to the BRIAN SCOTT SCHOLARSHIP at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). Brian served as a member of the TMCF Board of Directors because of his unwavering commitment to ensuring all children have access to an affordable college education.
