Calvin “Cal” Newell, 77, lost his body to cancer but his spirit went to heaven on Friday, May 7, 2010. He was comfortable at home and is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, sons Brian Newell and Ron Schulze, two daughters Pam Ross and Dawn Grant, and three grandchildren Logan, Callie, and Gabrielle.
Cal was born in New Egypt, New Jersey in 1933, served in the US Naval Reserve, and graduated from Rutgers University. He and his family moved to Charlotte in 1970 where he worked as a mechanical engineer for over 40 years before retiring in 1999. An avid tennis player and “aerobics nut”, Cal remained healthy and active until his diagnosis in early 2009.
