Born January 20, 1925 in Mt. Croghan, SC, he was the youngest son of the late Lonnie Preston Sellers and Bessie Hilton Sellers. Following graduation from high school, Mr. Sellers earned a BS degree from Clemson University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS North Carolina and was serving in the Sea of Japan at the time of the Japanese surrender.
Mr. Sellers, who retired from E.J. Smith & Sons, as well as the E.J. Smith Employees Group, was a charter member of East Baptist Church. He also devoted his time to coaching Little League Baseball for the Myers Park Civitan Club.
Mr. Sellers is remembered for his love of fishing, and as an avid Atlanta Braves, Clemson, and Carolina Panthers fan. Because of his outgoing personality, he never met a stranger.
His family includes his son, Carey Al Sellers and his “daughter-in-law”, Janis Graham; his dear friend and cousin, Rose Waddell Adams; and several nieces and nephews including Cathy Pratt and Sonny Sellers.
His wife, Lela Brantley Sellers, preceded him in death on May 20, 1999.
Mr. Sellers’ family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 25th at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at East Baptist Church, 6850 Monroe Road. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
