Carl David Bolt

Born November 19, 1932 in Dublin, Virginia, he was the son of the late Harmon Scott Bolt and Dorothy Lovern Bolt. He was preceded in death by his brothers Berl "Ben" Douglas Bolt and Richard Bolt and his sisters Agnes Bolt Worrell and Mildred Bolt Bemis.

Carl grew up in Dublin, Virginia, attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and graduated from Southern Mississippi University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. A college football standout as a running back, he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers and after a season in Green Bay concluded his professional football career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. Carl later coached college football and baseball at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia and at Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia. After many successful years coaching college athletics, he enjoyed a fulfilling career as a sales manager for Cummins Mid-Atlantic, Inc. headquartered in Richmond, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Surviving him are his two daughters, Tara Bolt Little and her husband John V. Little of Charlottesville, Virginia and Anna Bolt Widdowson and her husband Blake R. Widdowson of Richmond, Virginia; a stepdaughter Amber Wagenknecht of Plano, Texas; his sister, Marie Bolt Bailey and her husband Donald M. Bailey of New Bern, North Carolina; and four grandchildren Cory Widdowson, Elizabeth Little, Haley Widdowson and Johnny Little. He will also be remembered and greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews, his friends and colleagues at Cummins Mid-Atlantic, and many teammates and players from his years on the gridiron.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at McEwen Pineville Chapel,10500 Park Road, Charlotte,NC. A reception will follow.

The family expresses their deep gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Charlotte for their care of Carl.
