

Carl Dean Yount, 73, of Fort Mill, SC died at his residence on Saturday, August 6, 2011. Carl was born on July 25, 1938 to Carl and Edna Davis Yount in Shelby, NC. He joined the U. S. Army and married his wife Jo Ann in 1955.
Carl started his career in computer/information technology in Chicago in 1958 . He settled in Charlotte in 1966 with his family. Carl retired from Coats America.
He loved coaching his son Jeff’s baseball teams. He took particular satisfaction in the fact that Jeff became an Electrical/software engineer. He also took pride in his daughters success in her adult life working in the film and real estate industries, Carla eternally remains Daddy’s girl. Carl sat through dance recitals, ECU football games and even embraced soccer, all for Carla. He shared a truly special bond with his two children.
Carl adored his two grandsons, Roman and Moss, regularly attending the boys’ games in Wilmington and even learned to appreciate soccer.
Some of Carl’s closest friends were his brothers in the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge #737. In 1994, Carl served as the Master of the Lodge. Carl also enjoyed a group of good friends with whom he had breakfast most Saturday mornings and his “rehab” buddies who worked out with him at 6:30 am 5 days a week. The support from Carl’s various groups will never be forgotten.
Carl is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jo Ann, of Fort Mill; a son Jeffrey Yount and his wife Melissa of Dallas, TX; daughter Carla Lewis and husband Miles of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren Roman Miles Lewis and Moss Carl Lewis also of Wilmington; a sister Iva Jean Duncan and husband Raeford of Hickory, NC.
A Memorial Service will be at held at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 12, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 with Rev Jim Howell officiating. The Masonic Lodge #737 will conclude the services. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
