

Carl Clark, 89, of Charlotte, passed away on December 31, 2015 at Novant Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Marion Co., SC, he was the son of the late Erasmus C. and Helen Herring Clark. Also preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Nina McBay Clark, and two sons, Steven and Richard Clark. Mr. Clark was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Navy and then upon his honorable discharge, re-enlisted in the US Army. While in the Navy, he received the American Area Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, Europe/African/Middle East Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon. In the Army, he received a Purple Heart after being wounded in action, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars and the Arrowhead due to Amphibious Assault Landings; the Overseas Service Bar, and the PH Parachute Badge with one Bronze Star (a.k.a “Jump Wings”). Mr. Clark loved serving his country. He maintained his interest by frequently attending reunions of his time in the Navy and also was an ardent, proud member of VFW Post 9488, the Mecklenburg Post, at The Plaza in Charlotte. Mr. Clark also loved horses and boarded horses for a number of people.
Mr. Clark is survived by three grandchildren, Ashley Clark, Kevin Clark and Kelsey Clark-Sanchez and her husband Sal. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Alexis McLucas, Alex McLucas, Lacey and Canaan Clark and Liam Sanchez. Special friends, Michael and Barbara Manning, also survive.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Clark will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Gardens of Sharon Memorial Park with military honors rendered by the US Army, the VFW Post 2423 Honor/Color Guard, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
