Following is a tribute to our mother:
God decided to unexpectedly call one of his angels home this morning. She made it to the top of the mountain to be with her beloved husband of 68 years and her daughter that passed in 1978 and whom she missed every day. Mom was born on April 17, 1931 on a small farm in West Liberty, Iowa, She was an only child and spent the first 18 years of her life on the farm until marrying my dad in 1952. She always said she never imagined all the experiences she would have as they moved to Illinois, NY, back to Iowa, NY again, NC, San Francisco and then back to Charlotte. At some point she managed to have and raise 4 children. Mom loved her God and family and spent a lifetime in church service everywhere they lived. She loved to cook and bake from scratch, play games and had settled on bingo in her last few years as her game of choice at her Assisted Living home. We did have to convince her that 50 cents a card was not gambling. One of my fondest memories is coming home from school to the smell of fresh baked cookies, or spaghetti sauce warming on the stove. Mom had a big laugh, loved to sing, and welcomed every stranger. She had lifetime friends spread across the country. The last few years were hard as she dearly missed her "old man" and was in near constant pain from a bum hip. But she still lit up at our visits and from anyone that came to see her. Today we celebrate her 95 years of life and her reunion with those that went before her. We love you mom, and we rejoice that you are now fully restored. You have well earned your eternal rest.
Visitation will be held at McEwen Funeral Service Inc., 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.
