Carolyn Grellier Lord

February 13, 1926November 2, 2018

Carolyn Grellier Lord died November 2, 2018 at age 92 in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Boston, MA - a descendent of many of the Mayflower Pilgrims.

From childhood, Carolyn knew that she wanted to be a nursery school teacher. She graduated from the Nursery Training School (NTS) of Boston, now part of Tufts University and was the Director of several nursery schools in Pittsfield, MA. She was also Director of Religious Education at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, PA. As a volunteer, Carolyn managed several hospital gift shops in Schenectady NY, was active in Girl and Boy Scouts as an adult leader and co-Chaired the Membership Committee with her husband at the Unitarian Universalist Church Charlotte. In her spare time, she was an avid bowler and bridge player who also enjoyed writing poetry, singing and painting. Carolyn loved to travel, visiting dozens of countries, but her favorite place in the world was always Manomet, MA.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, H. Curtis Lord Jr.; children Priscilla King (Brian), Christopher (Maki), Peter, and Nancy Jackson (Gene); and grandchildren Alexander and Andrew King, Victor and Laurel Jackson, and Kenzo Lord.

Memorial Service to be held on this Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 234 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.

Dear Curt,

I want to belatedly offer condolences for your loss, on my behalf as well as by the entire Charlotte SCORE membership. Juliette Weiland (current president) did try to send a card on behalf of the SCORE membership, but we apparently don't have your current mailing address as the card was returned. I do know that you should have received an email invitation, as an Emeritus member, to the Annual SCORE Holiday Luncheon in December. I hope you can attend as your many SCORE friends, myself included, would very much like to offer their support and encouragement, face to face, during this difficult time.

Peace and blessings,

Dear Curt, I first met you and Carolyn when I came from Michigan to First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia. I was the new mom of Varinia and felt myself taken under your wings, and how grateful I was. It was good that you visited me when I was back in Michigan and I knew that you had never forgotten me as I never forgot you... My thoughts and prayers remain with you.. Love, Lynne (with my 5th great grandchild)

Carolyn and Curt headed our membership at Church and Rita and I served under them. I saw Carolyn happiest when we played bridge and despite my many conventions and high caliber competition, she smeared me.
They hosted us in Manomet in the New England traditions and my favorite sweatshirt is Cape Cod because of them.

I share this time of sadness with you. Don't remember meeting your wife at any of the SCORE luncheons, but definitely enjoyed sharing times together at the office for meetings.

My condolences,
