Carolyn A Phillips Watkins

Carolyn Phillips Watkins, age 75, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017. Born on April 30, 1942 in Charlotte, NC to Robert and Fannie Mae Phillips. She was the 8th of nine children. She was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She loved to be around family and friends.

A 1960 graduate of North Mecklenburg High. Carolyn retired after 31 years as a Cafeteria Manager for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Carolyn was a founding member of Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, which she loved dearly. She was a member of the Women’s Circle.

Carolyn became paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair after a fall 4 years ago. She spent every Monday at Race to Walk where she received extensive work outs. She looked forward to her exercise and had a special bond with each Therapist.

Her biggest passion was her family. She loved them all dearly and touched each deeply. She and her siblings had an annual beach trip. You could find them every Sunday gathering at one or another’s house for their weekly visits. She was always surrounded by her children and grandchildren and always supported the activities of her nieces and nephews as well.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Mason B Watkins Jr., of 57 years, daughter Cathy Thomas (Jeff), son Robert Watkins (Michelle), daughter Terri Crook (Larry), grandchildren: Cole Watkins, Alec Thomas, Blake Thomas, Timmy Rowe, Jenny Hammett (Jeff), Shaun Thomas (Stephanie), Caitlin Crook and Aimee Crook and 6 Great-Grandchildren. Siblings: Brothers, Foy Lee Phillips and Gary Phillips (Edith). Sisters: Virginia Pennington, Eloise Lockler and Bobbie Wilson (Allen). Sister-in Laws: Betty and Sue Phillips. She is preceded in death by her Brothers: Howard Phillips, Brooks Phillips (Betty), and David Phillips (Sue.) Sister-in-Law: Kay Phillips (Foy Lee.) Brother-in-Laws: Jack (Virginia), Ray (Eloise.)

Funeral Services will be Saturday, December 2nd at Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2324 Sam Wilson Rd., Charlotte, NC 28214. Visitation is from 12:30 to 2:00pm. Service is a 2:00 pm, with Graveside Service to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery 1915 Oakdale Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216.
