Carrie Godsey Hyatt, aged 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carrie was born on August 28, 1938, in Danville, VA, where she spent her formative years. As a young adult she moved to Durham, NC, where she spent many years raising her family, working at Liggett and Myers and later at IBM. With IBM she was transferred to Charlotte where she retired and briefly moved to Asheville before returning to Charlotte to be near family. In Charlotte, she held different positions; however, her most rewarding were the years she spent as a nanny for numerous families in the area. She remained friends with many of these families throughout her life.
Carrie was an avid reader, a passionate, life-long bridge player who loved the strategy of the game and cherished the friends she made through her bridge groups over the years. She was a committed Christian dedicated to her faith and her church. It was her faith that gave her strength through life’s challenges. She loved to walk, especially outdoors.
Carrie loved spending time with her family, playing games, vacationing at the beach, reading and enjoying the outdoors on a beautiful day.
Carrie is survived by her children, Bob Wynne (Carol), Melanie Luquire (Steve), Andrea Goode (Wade); grandchildren, Melissa Guenther (Andrew), Austin Graham, Conner Martin (Chelsey), Jessica Duston (Tim), Wynne Graham, Riley Wynne, and Cole Martin; great-granddaughter, Savannah Guenther; and her brother, Bobby Godsey (Janie).
The family would like to thank her primary care physician for many years, Dr. Zuzana Banas; the compassionate, kind-hearted physicians and nurses at Novant Presbyterian Hospice Unit; the staff at Calvary Church; and her numerous friends who continued to offer a comforting presence to her throughout her brief illness.
Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service celebrating Carrie’s life will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Calvary Church (5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC, 28226) with visitation beginning at 3:00 pm and the service following at 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Church, Charlotte, NC, or Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Fund, Durham, NC, https://www.lowesgrovebaptist.com/give.
