Carson Broome Sholin (93) of Charlotte passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was an exceptional woman whose life cannot be reduced to words or columns. Born to L.C. Broome and Stella Richardson Broome (Union County) Carson spent her entire life in service to others.
Her meritorious career with Motors Insurance Corporation spanned 33 years, but retirement was not part of Carson’s plan. In 1979 she co-founded Carolina Group Homes for young adults with Cerebral Palsy. Now recognized as Easter Seals-UCP, these homes provide round-the-clock care for her son Bill Sholin, Jr. and his friends.
Carson was not only a career woman--she was dedicated and passionate in every endeavor. She treated everyone like family—and family always came first. Carson was known for her Energizer Bunny steadfastness. She attended Sardis Baptist Church faithfully until she was no longer able. She often wrote letters to her friends and made us laugh with her rhymes. There was always a smile on her face and a light in her eyes.
Her love of music was legendary. She joyfully sang with the Charlotte Show Chorus (Sweet Adelines International) for many years volunteering for positions such as chorus president and editor of the weekly newsletter. When the chorus traveled for performances, Carson was right there helping assemble those heavy risers.
She leaves behind her church friends, her work friends, her friends at Dorchester and her family: Edie Wilson (Marty); Bill Sholin, Jr.; Grandson Jake Harrison (Stephanie) of San Diego, and their daughter Kate--who was the light of her life.
