Catherine Quinn Tome

Charlotte - Catherine (Cass) Quinn Tome passed away peacefully Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Cass was born November 9, 1924 to Albert Martin Quinn and Alice Benner Quinn in Philadelphia, PA. Like many young couples following World War II, she met her husband Bill in 1946 when he returned from military duty in the South Pacific. They married in 1949 and as a result of his journalism career with United Press International they lived in several cities ending in Atlanta where they resided the last 40 years of their married life.

Cass was a very strong and independent woman as were so many people who grew up in the Depression and World War II era. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and a successful businesswoman having operated her own travel agency, Magic Carpet Travel. Cass also enjoyed meeting people and throughout her life displayed a curiosity to learn through her friendships, travel and reading. She was known to read three or more books at a time.

Cass was a faithful member of the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, GA where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Her faith taught her not to judge people which she instilled in her children and friends.

Cass was preceded in death by her husband, William Olmsted Tome, Sr., who she cared for lovingly as he succumbed to dementia and her sister, Madeline Vernard. She is survived by her children, Alice Ann Miller and her husband Gordon, William O. Tome Jr. and his wife Susan and grandsons William Olmsted Tome III and Matthew Parks Tome.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC for caring for her the last two years, the membership and clergy at Our Lady of Assumption in Charlotte, NC for embracing her and the staff at Carolinas Medical Center for comforting her in her last days.
