

Celia and Saul were twenty-five plus year merchants in Gastonia as owners of Cohens Children’s Shop and partners in the Stork Shop. They contributed and/or participated in various community charity organizations in Gastonia and Pompano Beach. Celia was active in Hadassah and was an avid golfer and card player. She enjoyed travel, but most of all, being with her beloved family and friends. Celia moved to Charlotte in 2002 to the Brookdale Carriage Club, where she made many new friends, was a New Resident Ambassador as well as a member of the Dining Committee. She was also an avid card player in Charlotte and was surrounded by loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her nine brothers and sister. She is survived by son Michael Mandel and wife Sherry Haber of Washington, DC; son Mark Mandel and wife Audrey of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and grandchildren, Melissa Lemieux and husband Aaron and Dana Mandel, all of Charleston, SC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the chapel at Hebrew Cemetery, followed by interment, graveside (1801 Statesville Ave.).
The family would like to thank the staff at the Carriage Club for their kindness over the past fifteen years. Also, special thanks to Dr. David Framm, the CCU Staff at Carolinas Medical Center – Mercy Hospital, Cardelia Watson, Camille Chapman and Charlotte Hospice.
