Charles R Doster
November 16, 1928 – April 12, 2018
Charles R. Doster passed away April 12, 2018 at his home in Charlotte, NC at the young age of 89. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 22 2018 at 4pm at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park located at 5716 Monroe Road.
Charles was born on November 16, 1928 in Charlotte, NC to Richard (Jack) Doster and wife, Arietta Pope Doster. He graduated from Charlotte Technical High School in 1946. He served in the Army of Occupation in Germany in 1947 and 1948. He was recalled to service in the Korean War in 1950 and 1951. He was employed by UNISYS Corp for 31 years until retirement in 1987.
While living in Atlantic Beach NC, Charles served on the Board of Directors of the Bogue Banks Country Club for several years. He was an avid golfer with little talent, but loved the game.
After retirement and returning to Charlotte, Charles and his wonder dog, Herby, patrolled the streets of Starmount assuring no terrorist activities occurred under their watch. Charles was an active member of the VFW Post 9488. He was also a great fan of Duke University since the days of Wallace Wade and Duke Football. Charles loved to watch horseracing and occasionally placed friendly wagers on the big races. Charles was loved by many and will be missed by all, especially those of the Cobber where he frequently attended.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Doster Auten. He is survived by his niece, Karen Moriarty of Wilmington, NC and nephews, Ken Auten of Orlando, FL and Kim Auten of Wilmington, NC and families.
