

“Bud”, as everyone called him, was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Mr. and Mrs. Grady Gilmer Marler. He served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during WWII. Bud was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and the Asheville School of Law, where he and his late wife, Alice “Bunny” Marler began their family before moving to Greensboro, N.C. Bud represented West Publishing Company in North Carolina and in New Orleans, LA for 30 years with a distinguished career.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman. In his retirement, he immersed himself in fly fishing and conservation, and became a southeastern regional director for the Fly Fishing Federation, as well as President of the Nathaniel Green chapter of Trout Unlimited.
Mr. Marler is survived by his son, Charles Lee Marler, Jr. and Michael Miner of Palm Springs, California, and his son, Stephen G. Marler and his wife Meg and their son Gray of Charlotte, N.C.; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Berry Marler and her children, Christopher Marler of New Orleans, LA and Ann Marler and her husband, Dave Wilhoit of Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Marler was predeceased by his son, Christopher Gregg Marler.
A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Retirement Community Fellowship Hall, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, February 28th at 3:00 p.m.
