Christine Elizabeth Clontz

Christine Elizabeth Porter Clontz, 96, passed away on February 13, 2017 at Novant Hospice in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Union County, NC on December 12, 1920 to the late David William Porter and Jessie Vandelia Hall Porter.

Following her marriage in 1938 to Hampton Barker Clontz, also of Union County, she resided primarily in Charlotte, NC and had lived at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte since 2003. She had been a member of Amity Presbyterian Church for over sixty years.

Mrs. Clontz was preceded in death by her husband, Barker Clontz, in 1996; brothers D.W., Clyde and James Porter as well as her sisters Beulah Duncan, Ruby Means, Doris Edmonds and Kelly Ann Watkins.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Clontz Barnes and husband Bruce of The Woodlands, TX and her son, Shelley Barker Clontz and wife Deborah of Terrell, NC. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law Chattie Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Following a private family interment, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 2pm at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC. Reverend Betsy Williamson will officiate. The family will be pleased to receive friends following the service.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials for Mrs. Clontz may be directed to Aldersgate Retirement Community, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte NC 28215 or to Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte NC 28205 or to a charity of one’s choice.
