Clarence Eugene “Gene” Lamb, Jr., of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the age of 84. A private memorial service will be held at Brookdale Providence on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:30am with a reception following.
Gene is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice; his daughters, Lucy Lamb; Kathleen Brockman (Peter); son, Tom Lamb (Elizabeth); and his granddaughters, Laura and Sarah Brockman.
Born in Carrollton, GA to the late Clarence Eugene Lamb, Sr. and Janette Morrow Lamb, Gene spent summers on his grandparents’ farm. He grew up in Jonesboro, GA and attended Jonesboro High School being active in both sports and the band. Outside of school, he played alto saxophone in a dance band.
He left North Georgia College in Dahlonega during the Korean War to join the Marine Corp where he was awarded the National Defense Service Award and received an Honorary Discharge.
Gene graduated from The University of Georgia. Gene, a talented musician, played saxophone in the marching band so he could attend all the games! He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Gene accepted a position in sales with a small pharmaceutical company. After several years, Gene was promoted and moved his family to Charlotte, NC where they have remained. Upon retirement, Gene and his wife spent wonderful times in the Appalachian mountains with family and friends.
Gene was active in the Dilworth Rotary and his church. He rang the Salvation Army bell at Christmastime in his jolly red vest for many years. A charismatic man, people were drawn to his charm and infectious laugh. Gene loved to play golf, enjoyed a perfect manhattan, liked traveling with his wife Janice in the United Kingdom and the United States. He particularly enjoyed trips to Scotland, Alaska, and Hawaii. Holidays were about family and laughter.
His priority throughout his life was always his wife, Janice, whom he adored. He delighted in his family and cherished his children and grandchildren.
Gene Lamb was a good, hard-working, family man whose absence is keenly felt by those who loved him.
