Mr. Clifford Allen of Charlotte, beloved brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 20, 2019, at the age of 94. Mr. Allen was born October 8, 1924, in Dublin, NC, to Charles Jefferson Allen and Mamie Carroll Allen. He is preceded in death by his parents and also by his wife, Flossie Herring Allen, whom he cherished. Three brothers also preceded him: William Simpson Allen, Gurney Allen and Charles Jefferson (June) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a tobacco farmer in Dublin until he was drafted into the Army during WW II. He served in the 14th Armored Infantry under General Patton, fighting for his country in Germany and France. He survived the infamous Battle of the Bulge, the last major German offensive campaign of WW II. After his service, he returned to the US, moved to Charlotte, and then worked as a barber and also as a welder for Fruehauf Trailer Company.
Mr. Allen was a devoted member of Midwood Baptist Church in Charlotte. He loved working in his yard, and his beautiful azaleas were evidence of his passion and talent. He never met a stranger, he loved people, and this feeling was reciprocated by all those lucky enough to meet him. But most important to him was spending time with his family.
