Connie Larue Thornton

She was loved by many, especially her parents, Mary Nell and Ike Thornton (deceased), brother Ivey (Julie) Thornton, niece Sara (Pooran) Thornton, nephew Brett Thornton, niece Heather (Patrick) Lewis, and her beloved grandnieces and grandnephews Destany, Lennon, Iyla, Shelby & Piper.

Connie was born August 2nd, 1946, in Athens, GA. Born with a rare type of scoliosis, she never let it define who she was or what she was capable of. She could do anything the other kids do. The daughter of a military man, she learned to accept the frequency of change. She moved from GA to Japan at age four and back to the states eight years later. By the end of high school, she was fluent in French.

Connie attended UGA and became a laboratory research manager at Celanese, where she retired after 20 years of employment. Her hobbies included stamping, natural health, and classic movies. After the passing of her parents, she relied on her deep Christian faith and church friends to keep her spirits up. Her cousins Brenda, Debra, and Donna, whom she adored, called her daily to check in on how she was doing. Those calls were the highlight of each day.

Connie was one of the longest-surviving people in the country with her condition. She spent more than 30 years on a ventilator, impressing every doctor that ever treated her. Her will to live and incredible self-care attributed to her longevity. Throughout her 76 years, her soul touched our lives in the most beautiful ways, ones we will never forget.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday , January 26, 2023, at 1 pm at Forest Lawn West.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
