

Cornelia (Connie) Shell Coleman, 73, beloved mother, sister, and aunt, of Hypoluxo, Fl was called home on December 30, 2015 at Bethesda Hospice and Palliative Care center at Bethesda Memorial East in Boynton Beach, Fl. She was born the youngest of three girls on Febuary 3, 1942 to Thomas and Mary Gross Shell of Hickory, NC. She is preceded in death by her second husband of 22 yrs, William (Bill) K. Coleman, Jr., her first husband of 17 yrs, Donald Flynn Talley, her parents, Thomas and Mary Gross Shell of Hickory, NC, a sister, Jeanette Shell Teague of Hickory, NC, and many aunts and uncles including Sophie Shell Shepherd and Wade Shepherd of Hildebran, NC and cousin Wade Shepherd, Jr. also of Hildebran, NC. Connie is survived by a daughter, Melody Talley Baron and her husband, Richard, of Hypoluxo, Fl, a sister, Rebecca Shell Woods and her husband, Dean, of Hickory, NC, a stepdaughter, Nikki Coleman of Charlotte, NC, a stepson, Daren Coleman, and his wife, Kathy, of Rock Hill, SC, step-grandchildren, Jamie and Katelyn Coleman of Rock Hill, SC, nephews William Paul Teague of Lincolnton, NC, and Nick Woods of Hickory, NC, a niece, Pamela Shepherd Elliott, her husband, Terry, and great-nephew, Thomas Elliott, of Hildebran, NC. She retired in 1995 from 30 yrs with Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools. Connie was a graduate of Lenior-Rhyne College with a BA in Elementary Education and received an MA in Education from Appalachian State University. She taught 5th and 6th grades at Thomasboro School, Long Creek Elementary, Huntersville Elementary, and Steele Creek Elementary during her career. Her love of music and singing were evident throughout her life and touched everyone who knew her. She sang for the Lord in several church choirs, including the Fort Mill Church of God's Sounds of Praise choir. She was the choir director and pianist at the Assembly of God in Mooresville, NC with her first husband, Don, playing the organ. She loved to travel and ventured to many places, but was just as happy and content to be working in her yard, planting her favorite flowers, pansies and bearded iris, while singing praise songs. Christmas was her favorite time of year. Her house was always full of festive reminders of the season year-round. McEwen Funeral Home-Pineville Chapel at 10500 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210 will be serving the family. Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 9th from 6 to 8 pm and a service celebrating her life will be held January 10th at 2pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel with interment to follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens at 1504 W.
