Craig Alan Marshall was born on December 14, 1957 in Cleveland, OH. His family moved from Ohio to Westbury, NY when Craig was six years old. In high school, he excelled in wrestling and football where he was nicknamed by his coach, “Whopper” in response to a bet regarding a Burger King meal. He graduated from Westbury High School in 1976. He went on to attend Nassau Community College and later SUNY Brockport University where he studied and met his future wife, Mariann. They were married on Halloween in 1987.
Craig was employed as a Public Safety Officer rising to the rank of Sergeant on the campus of Hunter College in Manhattan, NY. He retired and relocated to North Carolina. He worked full time for Allied Barton Security assigned to Duke University until he relocated to Charlotte, NC.
Most people would say that he was an extrovert, outgoing and the life of the party. He had an infectious smile and laughter that filled the room. Craig always had the best stories to share and could captivate an audience with his gift of storytelling.
There was also an introvertive side of his personality that lended itself to spending time alone, resetting and learning while reading about varied interests and watching YouTube and discovery channels . He was a lifelong learner and knew enough about any subject that he could have you thinking he was an expert.
Craig was an animal lover and spent a lot of time learning about and caring for his pets.
Craig was a comic book collector. He had an extensive comic book collection that spanned over 5,000+ comic books. In addition to the comic books, Craig also collected hotwheel cars, swords and action figures. Craig also had a love of cars that he passed along to his daughter. They shared a lot of time discussing and dreaming about their favorite cars.
Craig Alan Marshall transitioned on August 25, 2023 in Charlotte, NC. He was 65 years old. Craig is survived by his wife, Mariann Marshall, daughter Devereaux (Darius), grandson Cordell, brother Bryan (Robin) of Raleigh, NC, Sister in laws Elizabeth Emanuel of Bronx, NY & Winifred Damken Emanuel(Martin) of Berlin, Germany and a host of nieces, nephews, an uncle, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Tyler Marshall and his parents George and Evelyne Marshall.
A memorial celebration is scheduled for September 23 in Charlotte, NC. Location to be determined.
