Craig had battled many medical issues over the past 20 years. This last medical problem was a massive infection in his neck, that he was recovering from and receiving long term medical care to clear up. His passing was very unexpected.
Craig was born in Findlay, Ohio and grew up in Green Camp Ohio. He moved to Charlotte, NC, in 1985 with his family. We met and married in 1987.
He was a very hard worker and great at the work he did. We decided to start our own kitchen and bath custom countertop business called Smith Custom Tops. He made a real success of it and worked with many home builders and local businesses for many years. He did electrical work after the housing market crash. He became totally disabled in 2014.
Julie, his wife, became the keeper of all his medical info and medical needs and care up until his passing.
Craig is survived by his wife, Julie Smith of Charlotte. His son Josh Smith (Sydney) of Chester, SC. His son Jeremy Smith (Madi) of Charlotte. Three awesome granddaughters, Kaitlin, Hannah and Ally (Josh's), also one amazing grandson, Damien (Jeremy's). His brother, Kevin Buck (Elaine) of Harrisburg and his sister Lori Smith of Surfside Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) and Sharlene Smith of Charlotte and Brother Darrell Buck of Hickory.
Craig was loved deeply and cared for lovingly by his family, especially Julie, who has loved him with her whole heart. They were married for 38 years.
Craig would do anything for his family which included his sons and daughters in law, grandkids and friends. He will be missed terribly everyday and thought of with great love.
A service and meeting of friends and family, to celebrate Craig's life will be held on January 17th, 2026 from 3PM - 5PM at McEwen Funeral Service Inc., 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, 28210.
