Born December 15, 1961, in Johnson City, New York. Dan was the youngest of five children born to Joseph Huray and Marjarie Traver Huray. He grew up in Johnson City before later making his home in Charlotte.
Dan married his beloved wife, Lynn, in 1999 and became a devoted father to Stephen and Tommy Lamb. He embraced fatherhood with patience, guidance, and unwavering support, teaching the value of hard work, respect, and appreciation for life’s blessings.
He cared deeply about keeping family connected, often traveling back to New York and elsewhere to maintain close ties with extended family and to honor the memory of loved ones who came before us.
Dan served as a Cub Scout leader and mentor, encouraging young people with practical wisdom and steady guidance. He was never judgmental and always wanted the best for his family and those around him.
Dan enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, autographs, and various other collectibles. Over the years, he’s gathered autographs from numerous musicians and comedians he’s met after their shows, turning those experiences into lasting keepsakes. If you’ve ever spent time with Dan, you know he’s always happy to share his collection and the stories behind each piece. His enthusiasm has even inspired his sons, who have followed in his footsteps by getting into coin collecting themselves.
He worked in the banking industry for more than three decades, earning respect for his reliability, integrity, and dedication.
Dan was an avid darts player, competing with the Queen City traveling team in Charlotte and earning countless awards and trophies over the years. He loved the game so much that he built a dart room in his home, creating a space where family and friends could gather, spend time together, and make lasting memories.
He had a quick wit and a generous sense of humor, always ready to share a laugh. A loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills, he celebrated one last Super Bowl run this year — even if the outcome stayed true to tradition, but got to watch the New England Patriots lose one more.
Dan enjoyed listening to music — especially the Grateful Dead — and attended concerts and festivals throughout his life. If he ever asked who was singing a song, a safe guess was Bob Dylan.
He loved the outdoors, including hunting and trips to the beach, from family visits to Carolina Beach to vacations in Hilton Head Island, always making sure his family had a place to relax and feel at home.
Dan loved animals and welcomed many furry companions into his life. A man of faith, routine, and just “A Simple Man”, he appreciated life’s small joys: a quiet sunny day, a good beer, good company, and sharing stories that brought people together.
Known for his thoughtfulness and preparedness, Dan planned carefully for the future, always considering the well-being of those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn; sons Stephen and Tommy Lamb; his siblings Andy Huray, Joseph Huray, Gerald Huray, and Helen Schatz; and many extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward.
Dan never met a stranger. He would always introduce himself and start up a conversation. Whether at a concert, comedy club, darting event or just a social event Dan would always make you feel welcomed. Dan’s legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely.
Dan wasn’t one to believe in receiving flowers; instead, we invite those who wish to honor his memory to use the link below to donate toward planting a tree, this is the wish he instilled with his immediate family. https://shop.arborday.org/commemorative-trees-for-others.
Planting a tree is a tribute that reflects who Dan was — A Simple Man who valued meaning over display, growth over grandeur. It is a living memorial that will continue to grow, just as his love and influence continue to grow in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM, with family & friends on Saturday, the 7th of March, 2026 in the chapel of McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West.
