gone from our lives, and we miss our gentle, sweet Daniel.
Daniel had a whimsical spirit and was a complete sci-fi nerd. He loved watching and discussing Science
Fiction movies. His face would light up and become animated whenever anyone would debate different
science fiction concepts. He spent his younger years collecting comic books of all kinds and thrilled to
make rare finds like first editions. Dan played video games in his free time – his favorite being Blade on
the PS2. Daniel could be as tough as Wolverine from the X-men comics he had collected since he was a
teen. He was as strong as Godzilla, whom he loved from old Japanese movies he would watch with his
brothers. He could be fierce like his favorite comic book character, the half human/half vampire Blade.
In truth, Daniel was fierce and strong and tough, but he was also a kind man with an enormous heart.
His compassion was evident to everyone. He would often talk to strangers as friends, engaging in
conversation and making people feel welcome. He was willing to help anyone and everyone in need.
Much of his professional life was spent in service to others. After graduating from King’s College, he
worked in health care for those in need. He then worked as store manager for the family toy store, Lillie
& Co. for many years, delighting in making children of all ages feel happy and seen.
He enjoyed the simpler pleasures of life. He could be found often fishing on the dock at the beach for
hours or sitting in the kitchen chatting with family about nothing and everything. This was a guy who
never saw a pizza he didn’t like, and really enjoyed a good Brandy Alexander.
At the center of Daniel’s life, was his beloved family. He loved spending time with members of his
immediate and extended family, and when it was time to part, he always told everyone that he loved
them. One of his most important days of his life was the birth of son, Joseph, whom he often referred to as ‘my heart’. He made sure to make space for his son in all aspects of his life, and always put him first in his thoughts. He never missed an important event is Joseph’s life – traveling over two states to watch Joe
play tennis.
Our ‘Dan the Man’ is survived by his son, Joseph Horne; parents, Sybil Hull Keach and Greg Keach;
siblings: Laura Withers, Jon Keach, Bill Killian and (Michael Killian), Sarah Keach Baucom and (Ryan Baucom); nieces, Eliza and Jules; and nephews, Tony, Nathan and Logan. Additionally, Uncle Floyd C. Hull III and Aunt Jan Hull, Aunt Brenda Hull Rhodes, and so many cousins.
