She was born April 13, 1931 in Seattle, Washington to the late Alfred Thomas Day and June L. Day. After high school she attended the University of Washington where she met Carey Pound, whom she married June 15, 1952. After traveling and moving with Carey actively in the Navy, they settled down in Carey’s hometown of Charlotte, NC. They had two children, Michael and Lisa.
D’Arlene was a professional runway model, makeup artist, and consultant. She founded the professional modeling organization, Mannequins of Charlotte in 1962. She worked with numerous stores modeling, doing TV commercials, newspaper ads, and local TV shows. D’Arlene was in Belk’s Serenade to Autumn for 28+ years. She worked with several makeup and jewelry lines in Belk’s and Dillards and she sold Shaklee products from home.
D’Arlene also loved singing with Sweet Adelines and writing poems.
She is survived by her husband, Carey Pound; two children, Michael Carey Pound (Debra) of Charlotte and Lisa Pound Edwards of Green Sea, SC; and four grandchildren, Matthew, Jason and Natalie Pound and Dylan Edwards and sister in law Judith Day.
She was presided in death by her brother William A. Day.
Due to Covid restrictions, the family will have a private interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.
