I met David over 20 years ago at the DOWD YMCA.  I was amazed at how often he was there and how dedicated he was to the spirit of working out.  He knew my 1st name though we at 1st barely spoke but he ALWAYS told me hello every time he saw me.  Over the years we started talking more.  About 6 years ago, I started working out with him.  We would do chest every Monday and Thursday and thanks to him I almost DOUBLED by maximum weight on flat bench.  Our group called him SUPER DAVE because the gym just seemed to bring out a special side of him.  He pushed all of us in our group to achieve the absolute best we could do EVERY TIME we worked out with him.  One of his favorite lines was "Be A GRIZZLY BEAR TODAY " in the weight room and we all tried to do this thanks to him.  My workout routine now during chest day is Dave's.  His legacy and impact varies for each person he touched and for me it was the gym and weight lifting where he inspired me and taught me so much.  His enthusiasm and motivation lives within all of my weightlifting group that were lucky enough to work out with him.  He will always be respected and never forgotten!

INTEGRITY is one word that I will always associate with David Canup. He was a man of his word. He was consistent, and he believed in encouraging everyone to rise to their highest level of achievement.
He was also a Servant, never hesitating to aid in any way possible. He was a Family Man.
Fit Living, Electronic gadgets and humor always peppered his conversation.
I'm glad to have known someone that measure of a 'Stand Up Guy' on some many levels. My prayers of comfort encircle this Family today and always.

Words will never express the hurt I felt when I received the news. Known simply as ‘Canup’ by so many of us fellow Trojans, he will surely be missed. He provided us, however, with so, so many wonderful memories that we can reflect upon from those days. This light-skinned brother was one-of-a-kind. On behalf of the OHS Class of 1989, thank you Canup for being you!

I remember the first day I started at Coca-Cola Consolidated and David Canup introduced himself. David was passionate about his job and assured us (the newcomers) that he was here to support us during and after training and he did!
Pre-pandemic, David would go through the Call Center and speak to everyone, it was like clock work! I look forward to seeing him everyday! During the Pandemic, he was true to form, he went through the center and spoke to everyone! I keep hearing his voice in my mind "Hey Lenora how are you doing today"? 
David was always willing to help, regardless if you reported to him or not! He was the "EPTIOME" of a Great Leader, a Great Man and a all around nice guy with no fluff or hidden agenda!
I send a heart-felt THANK YOU to the family for allowing David to be a part of my life! He will truly be missed. I pray that GOD will comfort you during this process and give you peace. I encourage you to remember his smile, his laughter and even a funny joke that he might have share with you! The family will always be in my prayers!

David was a  great friend and an absolute pool shark. This is a loss that is very hard for me to accept but I know I have to. When someone like David crosses your path they leave a mark. He was a man we all should aspire to emulate. Genuinely a great friend and teammate. I will make it my life's work to be more like you my friend. Rest easy. Love you man.

I can definitely say that I am truly still at a loss for words. Canup was more than just a manager to many including myself. He was a friend, an inspiration, shoulder to lean on and best believe he was always going to make you laugh. May God rest his soul. To Latisha and his children and his family you guys were all he talked about! I pray God continues to wrap his arms around you all! 

There are honestly many memories that I am so blessed to have about David Canup. To me he wasn’t just my coworker my manager, to me, he was another father figure. I am truly devastated with having to accept the fact that he’s moved on to eternity. One thing that I will never forget about Canup is his selflessness. Time after time he would always display the willingness to serve others. It could be as simple as saying good morning and as monumental as being present in a very special moment of my life. His ability to consistently be available for anyone and everyone is something that I will always admire and treasure. I send my condolences to Latisha and all of the family, and as I said that night, I am available not just now, but forever and always.

I met David when he served as a faithful Man of God at New Life Fellowship church. He was a part of security and  participated in the singles Ministry. He was one of the few authentically cool and down to earth light-skinned brothers that  I knew. He was always kind respectful and helpful. He was a blessing to the Ministry. I didn’t know he was also my classmate as I only attended Olympic High school for one year in 1986-1987.  His passing has floored me, but I can celebrate in knowing that he was a great contribution to our community with his gift s of kindness friendship and love. He will be truly missed and always remembered. My sincere condolences to all of his family and loved ones.

There's a saying that I've heard, "People won't remember what you said or what you did. They will always remember how you made them feel." Reading through these memories it's clear that David made people feel valued and supported. He had a way to make you believe in yourself when you couldn't and he could push you when you needed to be challenged. He really was such a great man. There's a lot I've learned from him; both professionally and personally. There can never be another "Canup."

A proud father that was always pushing to try and do better all the time.  I so enjoyed his smile, his respect, conversations of support and willingness to always try harder.  The time was to short as it always is and I pray for the family with all my heart.  I’m blessed to have known Mr. David Canup!

I met David arriving for his interview with Coca-Cola, and from there on  it's been a great experience. David is more than a manager / coworker, he was a born leader and friend, a man who loved his job but loved his family more, but I think he loved his 401 even more lol. I could go on and on with  my personal experiences with David, but I will cherish those memories in my heart, we have lost a great one, and my prayers goes out to Latisha and the family, may God Cover you and keep you all strong, in Jesus's name AMEN. 

I don’t think I could add anything better than what others have already said about Canup. He was one of a kind and always made me smile. We have worked together for over 6 years, but I still would answer when he called me Jennifer even though he corrected himself or laughed afterwards. “You just look like a Jennifer.” I can still hear him saying. I finally told him that it was ok and that I would answer him because I knew it was him calling for me. We helped each other often and I could always count on him. Thank you for being a positive and shining light at Coca-Cola! You will truly be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. 

Condolences and prayers out to the Canup family. David was a fantastic man and manager. I was lucky to work in the same company as David and got to enjoy many an engaging conversation. Memories of playing pool with David during breaks and lunches always was a great time. He was just an all around good person in and out. You will be missed.

It was not a day that went by while working at Coke when I seen David that he would miss saying something funny, encouraging, and uplifting. No matter how your day was going, David knew how to brighten up your day and put a smile on your face. David was one of the coolest, smooth, laid back managers I have ever had in my career. Until we meet again my brother, I know he is with the Lord!

Wishing the Canup family peace in this time of sorrow.  Peace in knowing that David was a constant reminder of how people with different outlooks on life can connect in the most human way. We are so grateful we got to know him. You are in our prayers.

David was one of the managers who interviewed me at Coke when I started. He always took time to answer my questions and led by example. His sharing of his journey at Coke inspired me to want to work there.
David always had everyone's welfare in the front of his mind, and reacted swiftly, confidently, and kindly when I had a couple of health scares at work. His genuine concern was calming in times of stress.
His knowledge, quick wit, and genuine compassion will be remembered fondly and truly missed  at Coke.

David was a such a huge presence as a member of the Coca-Cola family. Make no mistake, he was family to us all. 
In the many long years I have known him since he first joined with us at Coke, I have always known him to be consistently helpful, kind, and very giving of his time -no matter who it was or what the need, he gave you the gift of his time.  
Of all the family folks at Coca-Cola, I can honestly say David was the one who never, ever passed by my desk without a cheerful hello, --and he'd always followed-up by asking me how I was. 
I wish to extend my very deepest condolences to his family during this time of such great loss.- May you all be comforted in knowing he is with our Lord,  and to know just how much David was admired, respected and loved by all who knew him. I met David when I was working for Coca Cola. He was my manger and he honestly was very helpful always very happy and understanding. I was applying for a new position but David made me feel confident about myself he believed in me and he believed anyone could do anything. One of the conversation I remember with David was saying one of the most beautiful things in life was health he woke up everyday blessed giving thanks to god and that’s what pushed him to workout everyday. David thank you for being a great manger thank you for pushing me and giving me the motivation when it was once needed. I will pray for your family and May you Rest In Peace David. I knew David from the Keith Family YMCA and while I didn’t socialize with him, I considered him a dear friend. Never a day went by that he did t make a point of coming to say hello and chew the fat about sports, guns, etc. I will forever miss his friendliness and smiling face. My you all be left with the cherished memories and legacy he left behind. 

I worked with David his entire career with Coke Consolidated. He was so much more than a coworker; he was a friend. His desire to serves others was evident every day of his life. All I can say, is these will be tough shoes to fill.  Seventeen (17) years of a  walking, talking book of knowledge.  Thank you for RAISING THE BAR as a leader.  This causes me to reflect on the importance of  impact I should have .  We should all endeavor to be strong and tough as nails but be soft  as cotton. Thank you David Canup for raising the bar on what is to lead in struggles. What it means to be non-complacent but patient.  You have shown us  what it is to "take it in stride."  Your greatest occupation was humility.  In which real leaders, know it takes this to lead.  Thank you for  caring about all the people whose lives you have touched everyday. Although, we did not a chance to see you get that high seat, you are in the greatest position all! Thank You David Canup :)

My favorite memories of David Wayne are from our childhood and junior high years...he was the sweetest, most content little boy. Whether we were playing with all his Star Wars figures or running around barefoot playing paddle-ball, he was always smooth and easy-going. The only exception was when Scott was picking on him-dang, would David get hopping mad! But he always cooled down and forgave.

David Wayne cracked us up because he loved wearing his flip-flops in the summer, but wore them with socks! Our Grammaw loved to hold his hands, because she said it reminded her of Paw-Paw. He was always the cousin that would play any game we wanted without a fuss.  I remember when I was a teenager, I would practice my make-up skills on David.  Boy, did he look pretty!  And we'd just crack up and laugh ourselves silly.  

In junior high, I convinced David to join Chorus, so we could have a class together.  He was a really good singer, even though he was bashful about it.  He and I both wanted to go the Spring Dance, but since neither of us had anyone special, we went together.  That boy liked to dress, even then! He looked so handsome, and we had such a blast dancing in the Kennedy Junior High multi-purpose room.  Good times, now cherished memories. 

May the Lord comfort all who are grieving the loss of David.   He touched so many lives, in so many ways.  Words have not yet been invented that can convey the grief his loved ones, family,and friends are experiencing right now. It's been a blessing to read so many messages that mention his faithfulness and love of the Lord. As my mama said, if we can no longer have him here with us, what better place to be than in the arms of the Lord? 





Still lost for words, I could write a book report on how you inspired but ima keep it short but we all know “you was my guy” Keep watching out over your family 💪🏾

What can I say about David.it is hard to express one single memory.  I have so many of them there is no room.   He was my first friend in NC, Mentor and in my 7 years at coke he was like my big brother.   My heart is breaking.   The first thing I thought was "who was I going to banter with?"   
David's style was major wit and a prankster.  It seems that he knew when you where down and he would make sure he would get a chuckle out of you to cheer you up.   
I will miss him terribly and his "Cheshire cat" grin (which is when he was up to something).  
David ~ May the roads rise up to meet you,  May the wind be always at your back,  May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the rains fall soft upon the fields... and until we meet again.. May God hold you in the palm of his hand.  ...    until we meet again my brother and friend...

David was not “David” to me, he was simply Canup. He was one of my first employees at Coke and then a partner in crime, as we used to joke,  as a peer.  I knew I could always count on him for a good argument over crazy work stuff , to always meet me outside at my car when I needed help, and to give it to me real…no sugar coating…when I asked him for his opinion. That’s what I’ve always loved and admired about Canup, he was who he was and without any apologies. He was my friend and coworker and I will  cherish the many memories from all of these years working together, trying to survive  through everything life and work threw at us. Our Coke family has lost a great man, mentor and friend.  Latisha, Lauren, Christopher and family,  I pray that you can find peace and comfort in all of his love for you and the memories that you have of him. 

I could write a book about David , but for the lack of space I wont. To know him is to truly love him.  David was my very first supervisor entering Coke 6 years ago and he always remained the same . He was "Always " willing to assist, easy to talk to, and argue with (Lol).There was never a dull moment with him. I just want to say he will dearly be missed and no one could ever fill his shoes. To the family thank you for sharing a great man with us. Latisha and children this man spoke highly of you guys all the time. You were his world . Rest easy my friend. I love you!! Until we meet again!

I’ve know David since Elementary school! He was always the same, calm, sweet and quiet person, all the years I’ve known him! My sincerest condolences to his family! He will truly be missed!

Sincere prayers for Latisha and the children (along with the entire family). I’m still so shocked and saddened to hear of the loss of David. We worked together at Coke for many years. David was truly a wonderful person, always polite, quiet and just radiated his love for Latisha, Lauren and Christopher. Heaven has surely gained a special soul. While working at Coke I discovered we both knew some of the same people. He was always " the go to guy" when you really couldn't figure things out for yourself. I still recall how centered and grounded he was in every aspect. He was just a wonderful person with a helpful, caring and thoughtful spirit. I was so overwhelmed when he set up my retirement party and the wonderful words he used to describe me.  I have always believed that God sees the Righteousness in us and remembers that attribute. David was indeed one of the "Righteous" in my eyes and I am truly blessed to not only work with him but I called him my friend. Rest in Peace my friend, I absolutely know we will see each other again. Amen

Canup as I referred to him, was a great guy with a good spirit, he will truly be missed.  Always came around and spoke every morning, even though He was not my manager he was always there with encouraging words and advice and always had time to listen.  Condolences to his family,  will continue to pray for your strength during this time.

David and I started working at Consolidated the same day.  He was a great Friend, always willing to listen and help.  He loved his Family and God above anything.  I will never forget our lunches together, our laughs, our in depth conversations about faith and future for our families.  God has gained an amazing person and one day we will eat “skittles” again together.  

I will never forget his kindness. May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain. Canup will be missed!!

I extend my condolences to the family. Canup as I would reference him, was a stand up guy even though he stood short.(Lol) He was not my direct manager but he did interview me and I can remember that walk to the door to see me out and as polite as can be he said it was nice meeting you and we will be in touch. That was 4years ago! Since than he always maintained that politeness. He was faithful with a Good Morning tour spoke to everyone and knew everyone name( honestly I thought he was reading the name tags)🙄 but he did know everyone name.  Canup was a mentor a great listener great asset to the Coke Consolidated family a man of his word and always had advise. I will miss the most his faithful walk and his real sincerest conversation, his saying my ole lady and me saying I know she got a name, just the voice of him saying Good Morning. I shall remember David as a coworker and a friend, someone who talked sports with me and life in general.  Always willing to assist and lend a helping hand.  It was with much sadness and shock  that I was advised of his untimely demise.  I pray God’s Peace for Latisha and the children and the extended family.

You were my mentor, friend and brother. I’ve found myself asking why, continuously and not finding the answers to register. I dare not question God, he makes no mistakes! I love you Canup!
