July 6, 1934 – May 3, 2016
On May 3, 2016, David Carr Lockwood, Jr., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a brief illness. David was born on July 6, 1934 in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late David Carr Lockwood, Sr. and Carolyn Cowell Lockwood. David attended Harding High School, where he was an All-State football player. He continued his education on a full athletic football scholarship at Lees McCrae College and later played football for East Tennessee State University. David met his college sweetheart, Teddy, at Lees McCrae College. They were married three months before David was drafted and served in the United States Army, stationed in Munich, Germany. David and Teddy were married for over fifty-nine years and lived in Charlotte, NC. Teddy almost had David straightened out, as they would have been married 60 years in August. David was a successful businessman having worked for S.H. Duncan and Company, and Thomas Equipment in wholesale laundry distribution. He later opened his own laundry business and was self-employed for over forty years. David was an elder of Thomasboro Presbyterian Church at twenty-four years old. He was a charter member of New Life Presbyterian Church and Freedom Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. He was also president of the Industrial Management Council. A true Christian leader of his family, David loved the Lord and was a consummate gentleman and a devoted, attentive husband, father and Gramps. David was a hard workingman, who was extremely devoted to the Lord, his family and the church. He will be remembered for his big stature, his quiet demeanor and his dry sense of humor. He had a love of sports, especially for the Clemson Tigers. He was very supportive of all of his grandchildren’s activities, and often enjoyed watching them as they pursued their endeavors. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cutting trees and riding on his Clemson orange tractor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. David was predeceased by his parents, David Carr Lockwood, Sr. and Carolyn Cowell Lockwood, and his sister Alice Lockwood Craft. Surviving in addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, Teddy Burrell Lockwood, are son, David Carr Lockwood, III (Lesli) of Irmo, SC, daughter, Lisa Lockwood Moorefield (John) of York, SC, brother, William Peeps Lockwood (Marjorie) of Charlotte, NC, sister, Sarah Lockwood Waldrop (John) of Gastonia, NC and brother-in-law, Edward L.
