Deanne was a faithful disciple of Jesus, and a devoted and loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and friend. She was an active member of the North Atlanta Church of Christ, where she taught second grade for 30 years, and more recently of the Providence Road Church of Christ in Charlotte.
Deanne was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 4, 1940, to Oscar William and Louisa Catherine Rawlings. Deanne lived most of her life in Atlanta, retiring from the Social Security Administration in 2003 after 41 years of service. Shortly after retirement, she moved to Charlotte to be close to her daughter and grandchildren, where she was a daily part of their lives, teaching them in words and actions as she drove carpool and cheered them on at every event. She lived to serve; she had a heart for the lonely and those in need. She quietly and continually served with acts of kindness that often went unseen, except by those she was serving. She loved to travel with family and with friends; she especially loved the beach and always had a child-like wonder and delight for God’s creation and majesty.
Survived by her daughter, Merrill Maxwell McCreary (James) of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren: Jay (Skyler), Catherine (Connor), Max (Kris) and Allie, and three great-grandchildren: Easton, Brooks, and Briley; her brother Bill Rawlings (Joyce) of Acworth, Georgia; and many cousins and good friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of her life will be held at McEwen Funeral home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2022. The family will receive visitors at 1:00 pm, prior to the celebration.
