September 12, 1952 – January 30, 2025
Debra Leigh Overcash, 72, of Huntersville, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. A native of Charlotte, Deb was born on September 12, 1952, to the late Laura Jane Overcash Parke and Harvey Lee Overcash.
Deb dedicated her life to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, serving as the Operations Manager for InReach in Charlotte, NC. With over 30 years in the field, she was a compassionate advocate and a guiding force for those she served. Her work family at InReach was a significant part of her life, and her dedication left a lasting impact on countless lives.
She proudly served in the United States Army for 3 ½ years, attaining the rank of Sergeant. A graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1970, Deb earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Appalachian State University. While stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, she furthered her education, obtaining a Master’s degree in Psychology from Boston University.
Beyond her professional and military achievements, Deb was an avid sports fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer for her favorite teams. She had a deep love for golf, tennis, Tar Heel basketball and football, and Atlanta Braves baseball. Though born in Charlotte, her heart belonged to the Blue Ridge Mountains—she cherished her time in Blowing Rock and Boone, NC, and always considered the mountains her true home.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved sister, Gale Overcash.
Deb is survived by her brother, Curtis Overcash, and his husband, Darren; her stepmother, Kaye Overcash; her aunt, Mildred Parnell; and a host of cousins from the Burris and Overcash families. Her church family at First Christian Church, lovingly known as "the little brown church on the corner," was a meaningful part of her family’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church, 1200 E Blvd, Charlotte, NC. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. In honor of Deb’s love for sports, attendees are requested to wear Carolina Tar Heels apparel or apparel from the college of their choice.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Deb’s memory to InReach or First Christian Church, two communities that played an important role in her life. They also extend their deepest gratitude to both for their unwavering love and support. Deb’s kindness, dedication, and passion will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
