Dr. Don Khiem Nguyen, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, February 10, 2017 at his home in Charlotte surrounded by his wife and children. Don was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Kim My Trinh, daughters, Thi Nguyen-Southern and Uyen Benton, and sons, Chau Don Nguyen and Trung Don Nguyen. Dr. Nguyen is also survived by sisters Luong Nguyen of Charlotte and Huyen Nguyen of Paris, France.
Dr. Nguyen practiced general surgery in his native country of South Vietnam until his evacuation to the USA in 1975. He served as Field Medical Doctor of the Green Beret Special Forces of the South Vietnamese Army and a Naval Doctor with the South Vietnamese Navy. His last assignment in Vietnam was medical director of the Binh-Tuy Provincial Hospital.
He, his wife and 4 children immigrated to the United States in 1975. He practiced medicine in the U.S. for more than 20 years until he retired in 1997.
Dr. Nguyen was a wonderful family man, greatly adored by his family. During his golden years, he enjoyed spending time with his 9 grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening and fishing.
