Donald Cameron, 95, of Charlotte passed away on the morning of September 5, 2023. Don was born in St. Louis, MO, and after graduating high school enlisted in the US Army, where he served in Korea. Upon his return and with the help of the GI bill, he graduated from Washington University. Donald married Beverly, nee Rapp, in 1952. He was called on again by the Army to serve, this time in Germany.
Upon his return from Germany, he joined Ralston Purina. Subsequently, Don and Beverly transferred to Charlotte in 1956. In 1965 Donald started Cameron Brokerage, Inc., in a spare bedroom in their home. He grew Cameron Brokerage into a successful business that continues today as Cameron-Crittendon. After retirement in 1998, Don had a bout with cancer. His experience with cancer inspired Don to create a cancer survivors club as a support group for men in remission or reoccurring cancer.
Don was also heavily involved with the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games with Clan Cameron. His passion for the history of his Scottish heritage led to his being named Commissioner of North America for Clan Cameron. He was involved with the formation of the Loch Norman Highland Games where he served as the Chairman of the Rural Hill Historical Society.
Don is survived by his wife Beverly, sons Brad (Karen) and Paul (Diane), two granddaughters, Kendall Cameron and Leslie Blazevich (Parker), and great granddaughter Julia.
A a Mass of Christian Burial for Donald will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.
