Don went home to Heaven on November 5, 2020 with his loving wife by his side. He is survived by his loving wife, Kim; his children, Mary Kathryn Deans-Romero, Elizabeth Deans, Rebekah Joseph (Josh), William Teague, James Teague, and Lauren Teague; and six grandchildren, Myles Joseph, Selah Joseph, Isabella Romero, John Romero, and Tomas Romero.
Don was a CPA and a gifted tax strategist who thrived on helping people and companies to make the best decisions for over 40 years. Don was the leader of Deans Consulting, LLC most recently, but began his life on June 2, 1949 in Princess Anne, MD to Kathryn and Jack Deans. He studied at Fork Union Military Academy, followed by an undergraduate degree and an MBA at the University of Chapel Hill, with later coursework at Wharton School of Business.
Don's long career began with a 15 year stint at Deloitte where he made partner, followed by many years as an independent consultant. Don prided himself on supporting those he worked with, with his solid strategies, insight, and encouragement. He brought to work a passion, skill and wit that colleagues and leaders alike found laudable.
Outside of work, Don was a man who brought a humble approach to his Christian beliefs. He enjoyed working hard, loving others, embracing diversity, and patronizing many good causes. He was truly a good and faithful servant. Don enjoyed a dozen golden years with his adoring wife, Kim, whom he cherished, respected, and loved dearly. His presence will be greatly missed by many.
Given that Don loved others so much, the family has waited for his service throughout the pandemic in hopes to keep others as safe as possible.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 5th, at McEwen Funeral Home at Myers Park from 10:00-10:45 am. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel.
