Donald worked as a professional barber for 56 years and was employed by Gary’s Barber Shop in Charlotte. He was an Army Veteran Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War in 1951. He was honored with the Purple Heart and Silver Star for his extraordinary heroism and bravery.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Benny and Malloy. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Deloris Kay Hicks; a special Brother-In-Law who was like a son to him, Tony Holmes; sisters Myrline Johnston and Shirley Bertram (Bob) of Charlotte, NC, Ann Knight of Marvin, NC, Lu Rayfield of Lancaster, SC, Saundra Jackson of Pageland, SC, Carolyn Couick and Judy Plattenberger of Monroe, NC; brothers Larry Hicks of Lancaster, SC, and Roger Hicks of Monroe, NC; 15 nieces and 14 nephews; brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s who loved him very much.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
