Donald Evan McCrory, 77, went to be with the Lord on February 10 , 2013. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Harold Ernest McCrory and Dorothy Irene Edens McCrory. He is survived by his wife, Betty Freeman McCrory and daughters: Cheryl McCrory Miller (Andrew), of Denver, Colorado, Elizabeth Ann McCrory of Denver, Colorado, Sherry Freeman Schurr of Charlotte and Karen Freeman Straple (Bob) of Charlotte. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jesscia Schlaack, Justyn Schlaack, Evan Miller, Lisa Zychowski, Dana Zychowski, Kyle Zychowski, Ciara Haws, Brent Hood (Lori), Brad Hood (Christie), Christopher Straple and 5 great grandchildren.
Donald was very active in Boy Scouts, playing baseball and basketball throughout his school years as well as enjoying music. He played French horn in marching and concert bands and orchestras. He graduated from Albion College in 1953, was active in his fraternity, Signa Nu, and earned his varsity letter in baseball. He graduated in 1957 and worked for General Motors until he retired in 1991 as a general manager of GMPD-Engineering Group. Donald was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher, Personnel and Stewardship committee chairman, and member of the Care Sunday school class.
Donald served God faithfully, was a wonderful husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a good example of what a man should be, honest, respectful, smart and dependable. He was a stanch defender of the Constitution of the United States and loved his country. Visitation will be at The Woodlawn Baptist Church, February 13, 2013 at 1pm. Service following at 2pm, officiated by Rev. Earl Pennell. Graveside service will be immediately following at Crown Memorial Park.
