Donald Wesley Powers

Don, 84, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 10, 2017 at CMC Charlotte. A devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather, he is lovingly remembered for his boundless energy, infectious smile and unconditional love to all he met.

Don was born in Charlotte, NC on February 28, 1932 to the late Rev. JW and Louise Powers. A graduate of Concord High School in Concord, NC, he entered and served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Don married the love of his life, the former Joan Arleana Bost of Landis in 1954. He moved his family back to Charlotte in the late 1950’s and continued his career in sales, later as the owner of Powers Furniture Company and lastly in real estate. His real joy in life was serving the Lord. This is evidenced from his work at Eastway Church of God, his support of church building activities in Africa, a prison ministry that lasted more than a decade and finally serving as Senior Pastor at Word of Truth Family Church for the last 25 years.

Don is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Lorie and son-in-law Ken Andrews, three grandsons, three great-grandchildren, brother Eugene Powers of Mount Airy, NC and sister Glynda Whittington of Greensboro, NC. He was loved by everyone he met and leaves behind numerous family and friends.

A service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Eastway Church of God, 1131 Eastway Drive, Charlotte NC 28205 with Pastor Dan Carter officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 5pm to 7pm. A private interment will be held for the family at a later date.
