Donald Lee Pruitt

Born April 23, 1950 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Herbert Pruitt. Following graduation from Spartanburg High School, Don moved to Charlotte to pursue work in engineering. His first employer in that field, Duke Power, trained him to be an electrical designer which he successfully made it his lifelong career.

He loved music and played guitar. He loved the outdoors. He had multiple bird feeders and often sat on the deck watching the different species flying in and out. One of his favorite past times was watching old western movies and TV shows.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karla Williamson Pruitt; two daughters, Missy Pruitt and Amanda Pruitt Best (Jason), and two grandchildren, Audrey Best, and Cole Best, all of Charlotte. He also has two sisters, Charlotte Groce (Spartanburg, SC) and Becky Lyda (Flat Rock, NC), and his brother Jerry Lyda (Augusta, GA).

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Lyda, and a sister Kay Drennan.

A service to honor Don will be held at McEwen Funeral Home - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service.
