Donna was born in Charlotte, the daughter of Joe Ward Reid and Rachel McRorie Reid, and grew up in the Enderly Park neighborhood in West Charlotte. She graduated from Harding High School in 1969. Determined and hardworking, Donna pursued her education in nursing school while raising her daughters, a testament to her strength and dedication.
She began her career working in pediatrics at Charlotte Memorial Hospital (now Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center), where she cared for children with compassion and skill. She later continued her career at Elizabeth Pediatrics, where she worked for nearly 20 years. Donna was deeply loved by both her colleagues and the many families she served, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Donna is survived by her husband, Brent Mullen; daughters, Tammy Webb (Mark) and Laura Holder; stepson, Nicholaus Mullen (Shelby); along with her sisters, Gwen Reid Burleson and Joann Reid Avant.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a proud grandmother to Sara Farrar (Caleb), Joshua Holder (Kayla), Anna Holder, Rena Holder, Rachel Duval (Matthew), Janie Webb, Will Webb (Annie), Brinley Mullen, Maverick Mullen and Raelynn Russ.
She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Andrew, Eli, John Luke, Harper, Emmi, Ava, and Noah, all of whom brought immense happiness to her life. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her lifelong friend, Debbie Neely Beddow, was by her side since childhood and in her last days.
Donna had a gift for creating a warm and welcoming home. She loved gardening and sewing, and she poured her creativity into everything she did. Some of the most cherished memories for her family were simple, joyful moments—sleepovers with her grandchildren filled with popcorn and long games of Monopoly, and special “cousins’ lake days” with swimming, hot dogs, and boat rides. She made these moments magical and unforgettable for everyone involved.
She also had a remarkable way of making holidays truly magical, especially Christmas. For many years, she gathered all of the grandkids together on Christmas Eve to help with preparations, filling her home with laughter, warmth, and excitement. Halloween with the grandkids was filled with laughter, pizza, candy and treats. These treasured traditions created lasting childhood memories and became some of the most beloved moments for her family.
Above all, Donna loved the Lord, and her faith was an important part of her life.
Donna will be remembered for her kind heart, her resilience, and the love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the countless lives she touched.
Donna’s family would like to thank the many caregivers at PACE, Senior TLC of Gastonia for their love and care.
