Donnie Kevin Moore, 70, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. He was born on September 8, 1955, in Blacksburg, South Carolina.
A proud graduate of Blacksburg Senior High School, Class of 1973, Donnie went on to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He later pursued his calling in service and community care by completing Funeral Services training at Fayetteville Technical Community College, becoming a licensed North Carolina Funeral Director.
Donnie was a charismatic leader, a natural hustler, and a man whose presence filled every room. He carried himself with confidence and style, known for his sharp suits, his love of shopping, and his undeniable gift for connecting people. If you needed a recommendation, a referral, or advice, Donnie had it. He believed in relationships, in networking, and in lifting others along the way.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army and later in the U.S. National Guard. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Medal. His commitment to service extended beyond the military. He was a member of Star of St. Matthew’s Masonic Lodge, Parkwood Institutional CME Church where he served as a Class Leader, The Mecklenburg County Fighting Back Project, and the Men’s Travel Club.
Donnie was known as the ultimate host. He loved bringing family and friends together, especially around good Southern food — chitterlings, neck bones, pig’s feet, and a perfectly grilled meal prepared by the Grill Master himself. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, a lover of performance motorsports, jazz, soul, and R&B music. He enjoyed DJ’ing, appreciated fine cognacs, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy life.
Above all, Donnie loved his family. He recently celebrated 41 years of marriage in January with his devoted wife, Cathy Moore. Their union was a testament to loyalty, partnership, and enduring love.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cathy Moore of Charlotte; his daughters, Whitney Moore of Charlotte and Chelsey Moore of Charlotte; and his beloved grandchildren: Hendrix “Paw Paw Lil Buddy” (8), Alani “Lani Love” (6), and Avery “A-Way” (1), who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
He is also survived by a host of extended family members and lifelong friends.
Donnie was preceded in death by his mother, Margie E. Moore; his special aunt and mother figure, Betty R. Moore; his grandmother, Willie Mae Moore; his uncle, Willie “Bubba” Moore; and his great aunt, Sara Moore.
His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the doors he opened, the wisdom he shared, and the love he poured into his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute Advancement Fund or the Atrium Health Foundation Nursing Fund in his honor.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Parkwood Institutional CME Church, located at 802 Tom Hunter Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28213, on March 7, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. A Celebration of Life service will follow at the same venue, beginning at 12:00 pm.
