

Mrs. Clanton, age 88, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Born October 8, 1922 in Charlotte, she was a daughter of the late Hazeline Stephens Sayer and William Bennett Sayer. Mrs. Clanton was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and its Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Clanton will be remembered as a good Christian woman that lived by example. She was known as “a great listener, not a teller” and had many friends throughout her life. At age 32, after losing her sight, she took care of her three small children, husband and mother. Mrs. Clanton never complained about her handicap, but instead, had a positive attitude and always saw the good in everyone.
The service to celebrate the life of Doris Stroupe Clanton will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Faith Baptist Church, 6840 Wilson Grove Road, Mint Hill, with Pastor Rick Baker officiating. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Survivors include three children, John Clanton and his wife, Erlene,
of Mint Hill, Susie Clanton Stephens and her husband, Brad, of Huntersville and Bill Clanton and his wife, Tena, of Charlotte; a sister, Betty Stroupe Fetner of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Marty Clanton, Kevin Clanton, Candie Goodwin and Julian Clanton; and five great grandchildren, Amaya Clanton, Bobby Goodwin, Sarah Goodwin, Gavin Pardue and Brantley Pardue. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Clanton was preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Clanton and her granddaughter, Amy Stephens Pardue.
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Clanton’s special caregivers, Deborah Crawford and Pierett Hayes, for their compassionate care.
